Trek's own Alpha Black Aluminum construction technology utilizes hydroformed 6000-series aluminum for reduced chassis weight, resulting in an aerodynamic profile that has been smooth welded for sleek aesthetics. A carbon-legged Bontrager Race fork is included with SpeedTrap compatibility for on-the-go digital speed reference, working in conjunction with the bike's SSR-series wheels and 43-centmeter R1 tires. The SLX's drivetrain is made up entirely of Shimano 105 components, including a set of 10-speed STI shifters and a pair of matching derailleurs for smooth, controlled gearing. Compact and triple crank sets are available based on the environment that the bike will be used in, while an additional 10-speed cassette offers fine-tuned adjustment in advanced uphill and downhill applications. A steel-railed saddle helps to provide long-term seat support with a 20-millimeter offset seatpost for improved comfort during longer rides, with a fully adjustable handlebar/stem for true user customization. Tektro's R540-series brakes enable break-neck stopping for maximized safety, and offer adjustable-reach lever response for emergencies. A set of fender mounts are also provided to protect against damages stemming from rain and mud.
