The chromoly steel frame gives the frame weight, but still leaving it light enough to be used skillfully. The SRAM X.5 shifter is not only lightweight, but gives the bike nine speeds and an integrated quick view gear indication, making it easy to tell what gear a rider is in even while riding. The Avid Juicy 3 brakes provide responsive braking, as well as comfort. When compared to another Trek mountain bike, the Marlin, the Sawyer has some advantages, such as more speeds (nine versus eight).
